HUMANE CHARITY SPOTLIGHTSave A Child’s HeartChildren suffer from heart disease around the world, but many do not have access to the care they need. Save A Child’s Heart (SACH) is an Israel-based organization whose mission is to improve children’s cardiac health worldwide by performing lifesaving surgeries and training medical professionals to provide critical care in developing countries. To help children already suffering from severe heart conditions, SACH performs heart surgeries at its Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel. Children SACH helps range from infancy to 18 years of age and hail from 42 different countries. Since 1995, SACH has treated more than 2,700 children who otherwise would not have received care. SACH provides comprehensive training for physicians and nurses from developing countries to improve children’s access to adequate heart care. Trainees benefit from these in-depth programs that last from three months to five years, bringing the knowledge to support all aspects of pediatric heart care from the classroom to their clinics. In addition to providing surgeries and training at the Wolfson Medical Center, SACH medical teams travel to partner sites around the world, performing heart surgeries and teaching local medical professionals. They organize cardiology clinics to evaluate pre- and post-operative patients, serving dozens to hundreds of children during each visit. Every child should have access to vital medical care, and with its surgery and training programs, SACH is working toward making that goal a reality.
