HUMANE CHARITY SPOTLIGHTChildren Affected by AIDS FoundationAccording to the World Health Organization, about 34 million people are living with HIV/AIDS, and 3.4 million of them are children. Dec. 1 marks World AIDS Day, and many organizations are working hard to raise awareness. The Los Angeles-based Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF) is devoted to providing critical social and educational support programs to children impacted by HIV/AIDS in the United States and around the world. In the United States, CAAF’s Camp Network program sends children affected by AIDS to summer camps, fostering ways to improve the camp experience and developing new camps. CAAF’s Family Assistance Program provides financial help to families in need of support with medical bills, housing, food, utilities, and other expenses brought on by the impact of HIV/AIDS. CAAF’s International Program for HIV Orphans and Vulnerable Children, started in 2005, is another cornerstone of the organization. This program awards grants to nonprofit organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean to support children affected by or orphaned due to HIV/AIDS. Since the program’s inception, CAAF has awarded 145 grants to organizations in 16 countries. Just last year, CAAF’s support aided more than 15,000 children outside of the United States. This World AIDS Day, learn more about the special needs of children affected by HIV/AIDS and how to help by visiting www.CAAF.org. |
