HUMANE CHARITY SPOTLIGHTSupport the Larry King Cardiac Foundation during February, American Heart MonthMore than 60 million people in the United States suffer from heart disease, and many cannot afford the prohibitive cost of treatment. After his successful quintuple bypass surgery in 1987, Larry King was thankful to be alive and determined to help others with poor heart health and limited means. In 1988, he established the Larry King Cardiac Foundation (LKCF), donating funds from his books, speaking engagements, and entertainment galas to provide much-needed surgeries for individuals with heart disease. LKCF strives to “Save a Heart a Day,” working with hospitals to provide medical attention to individuals who would otherwise not receive treatment. The foundation fosters relationships with hospitals across the country, and doctors perform lifesaving surgeries for just the cost of the materials used. In addition to funding heart surgeries, LKCF focuses on preventing heart disease before its onset. LKCF recently partnered with Life Line Screening to sponsor low-cost blood screenings across Tennessee. These invaluable tests include cholesterol and glucose screening, both of which can identify those at-risk for strokes and heart disease. LKCF’s human-based approach to preventing and treating heart disease has helped save countless lives and provided vital support for charities that tackle heart disease head-on.
