HUMANE CHARITY SPOTLIGHT

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation

While many people are buying gifts for the upcoming holidays, some families are struggling to take care of their children suffering from cancer. In addition to the emotional toll cancer takes on a family, mortgages, bills, and other payments can quickly pile up as the exorbitant costs of treatment take priority. Fortunately, organizations such as the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation are working hard to help families in need, aiding children with cancer in Florida, Georgia, New York, and New Jersey.

The Jay Fund was started in 1996 in memory of Jay McGillis, one of NFL football coach Tom Coughlin’s players who demonstrated great courage and compassion while battling leukemia. While spending time with the McGillis family as Jay underwent treatments, Coughlin recognized the great need for financial assistance to relieve some of the pressure on families and allow them to focus on their ill children.

To help combat childhood cancer, the Jay Fund provides support both to families and to hospitals. The fund’s assistance allows families to pay for household expenses or even take leave from work to spend time with their children. At hospitals, the Jay Fund awards grants for vital programs and events. The Jay Fund hosts parties and sends children with cancer to sleepaway camps as well to bring joy to their lives.

Battling cancer is extremely challenging for ill children and their families, and the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation’s much-needed support provides access to care and relieves some of the burden on those affected. To learn more about the Jay Fund, please visit www.TCJayFund.org.
